Enjoy!

(ENGLISH VERSION BELOW)

Ciao ragazzi, come state?

È iniziato tutto all’università.

Conosciamo personalmente molti fan e musicisti. In realtà, è una grande comunità. Ci aiutiamo a vicenda.

*ENGLISH VERSION*

Hello guys, how are you? Hi, thank you for taking time for this interview. We are doing well, thank you. So far, we are still healthy therefore we can work on new stuff.

Can you please tell to the Verorock’s readers, how the project was born in 2007? It has been found at university collage. At the beginning, it was a cover project performing just for friends. The first own songs were made in 2009 and the first album was released in 2010. Till 2021, Rosa Nocturna has been released four albums and four singles.

Why did you choose to sing in your own language and not in English? Well, at the beginning, the band played just for local fans and singers felt comfortable to sing in Czech language. Later on, we have got also some foreign fans. Therefore, we have released some of the songs in English. These days, Czech lyrics are still important for our local fans. Indeed, it is more challenging as it is more difficult than English. Especially, phrasing is more complicated. To focus on local and foreign fans, we would like to release our new songs in both languages.

What’s the main concept behind your music? Rosa Nocturna emphasizes interesting vocals, rich symphonic orchestrations and strong guitar riffs in the songs. Lyrics often tell stories which come from ancient times. Live concerts are emphasized with costumes and decorations. As we play symphonic metal, it is based on female vocals. Nowadays, we have two female singers: Anet Zatočilová (also singing in Synæsthetics) and Viktorie Surmová (founder of Surma band and singing in several other projects). Concerning male vocals, we cooperate with Mathias Novak (also singing in Euphoria) and our guitarist Petr Vosynek is also a growler. To continue with the band introduction, Tonda Buček is a guitarist, composer and manager. He is the only one who was involved in the beginnings of the band. The rhythmic section consists of David Koudela as a bass guitarist and the youngest member Dan Havránek as a drummer.

Tell us something about the metal scene in Czech Republic… is there an easy life or not for the underground bands? More or less occasions to get a lot of people at the shows? Metal in Czech Republic is not as popular as we would like to have it. The most popular genres are pop and rock. I often say that the metal scene in Czech Republic is like a big family. We know many of fans and musicians personally. Actually, it is a great community. We help each other. It is definitely not an easy life. Almost on every rehearsal, we discuss what we can bring to our fans, what we can do differently than others and how we can be more visible.

How does it work with you the composing process? The most of the music and lyrics are made by Tonda Buček. Petr Vosynek composes some guitar riffs as basis for the songs. Some lyrics are created by our dressmaker Kateřina Loučková. David Koudela prepares bass lines. Dan Havránek makes drum parts and he translates our lyrics to English. Every song starts with some idea. It could be a simple riff, a text or just a concept. Then we try to evaluate it until we feel it is complete.

I’ve been watching your video with Heri Joensen (front man of TYR), “O lásce, o válce a o krvi”, a bit sad but well done. Why have you chosen Heri? Oh, thank you very much. We are proud of it. It took some effort and we like the result. Well, when we prepared casting for the music video, we chose Viktorie Surmová as the main female actor. In the scenario script, there were some love scenes. Viktorie is in relationship with Heri, so we ask him if he could play the role of her husband in the video. Fortunately, Heri agreed and we had a chance to complete it without breaking any relationship. 😊

What have you been doing as a band, during this looong forced “stay at home” period? Yes, it is very long. Fortunately, we have a lot of things to do. Last year, we have released our fourth album. Due to quarantine, it was done relatively fast. We focused primarily on it without interruptions. Moreover, we have released sand animated video for our song “Světlonoš”. We have produced a lockdown video. A lockdown unplugged concert has been released recently. So, generally speaking, we try to be more active online and prepare things that can be done during that difficult time period.

What’s the first thing you’re gonna do when this damn virus will be over? (We hope that the vaccination will end this nightmare soon). We hope we will reenforce the contact with our fans. Definitely, we need to go back on stage. We miss it a lot. We have already planned a tour with other bands, but everything is still unclear.

Do you expect for the future, to keep on the actual direction (Symphonic Metal) or to add new elements to this style? Good question. Rosa Nocturna is primarily a symphonic metal band. On the other hand, in the songs, you can also identify other subgenres like power metal, folk metal and trash metal. The last album sound more like folk metal because we asked several hosting musicians with acoustic instruments to participate on it. We will see what will come next. I am sure we want to create something origin in our style.

Thank you, feel free to live a message to the readers of Verorock.it if you want! Thank you very much for this in-deep interview. We appreciate it! We would like to wish to the readers of Verorock.it good health. Please keep safe, so, we can meet once this is over. Do not forget to support your band or artist as they need you more than ever. Good luck!
