LESLIE WEST E’ DECEDUTO A SEGUITO DI UN ARRESTO CARDIACO ALL’ETA’ DI 75 ANNI
Leslie West, nato Leslie Weinstein, è morto. L’iconico chitarrista, cantante, cantautore e cantastorie ha lasciato un’eredità che ancora oggi viene celebrata dai coetanei e dai fan di tutto il mondo.
Weinstein è nato a New York City, ed è emerso per la prima volta sulla scena come membro dei Vagrants. Qualche anno dopo, insieme a Felix Pappalardi, ha formato i Mountain, una band che è stata tra i primi pionieri del genere, poi diventata nota come Heavy Metal. Colpi che includono “Mississippi Queen”, “Theme From An Imaginary Western”, e altri hanno stabilito un tono di voce e chitarra indelebile che rimane leggendario ancora oggi. Nel 1969, West ha portato la sua presenza sul palco di Woodstock.
Al volgere del decennio, formò West, Bruce e Laing con il suo compagno di band, batterista dei Mountain Corky Laing e Jack Bruce dei Cream. Nel 1971 West ha contribuito alle sessionS di ‘Who’s Next ‘ dei The Who, performance che si possono ascoltare nelle ristampe del 1995 e del 2003 di quell’album fondamentale.
Accanto al suo significativo contributo alla cultura pop come volto dei Mountain, West è apparso in film come Family Honor (1973) e The Money Pit (1986). È stato ospite abituale dell’Howard Stern Show, e nel corso dei decenni è rimasto un ospite periodico, oltre a godere di un’amicizia decennale con il presentatore del talk show.
West è stato inserito nel Long Island Music Hall of Fame nel 2006, ed è apparso su decine di altre registrazioni di un vasto universo di artisti. Alcuni esempi delle sue performance hanno vissuto una vita secondaria sui maestri dell’awho’s who delle star dell’hip-hop e del rap.
Il chitarrista è noto per aver contribuito a rendere popolare la Gibson Les Paul Jr. con i pick up P-90 per creare qualcosa di incontestabilmente suo. Più recentemente, ha avuto una lunga relazione con Dean Guitars, rilasciando diversi modelli di firma.
Leslie West è sopravvissuto alla moglie Jenni, che ha sposato sul palco dopo l’esibizione di Mountain al Woodstock 40th Concerto per l’anniversario a Bethel, NY, il 15 agosto 2009. E, fratello Larry e nipote Max.

LESLIE WEST PASSES AT AGE 75 FROM CARDIAC ARREST
Leslie West, born Leslie Weinstein, has passed away. The iconic guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and storyteller hasleft a legacy that to this day is celebrated by peers and fans across The World.
Weinstein was born in New York City, and first emerged in the scene as a member of The Vagrants. A few yearslater he and Felix Pappalardi formed Mountain, a band that was amongst the first to pioneer the genre later tobecome known as Heavy Metal. Hits that include “Mississippi Queen,” “Theme From An Imaginary Western,”and others established an indelible voice and guitar tone that remains legendary to this day. In 1969, Westbrought his presence to the stage at Woodstock.
As the decade turned, he formed West, Bruce and Laing with his band-mate from Mountain drummer CorkyLaing and Cream’s Jack Bruce. In, 1971 West contributed to The Who’s Who’s Next sessions in the city,performances which can be heard on the 1995 and 2003 reissues of that cornerstone album.
Alongside his significant contribution to pop culture as the face of Mountain, West appeared in films that includeFamily Honor (1973) and The Money Pit (1986). He was a regular guest on the Howard Stern Show, and overthe course of decades remained a periodic visitor alongside enjoying a decades-long friendship with the talkshow host.
West was inducted in to the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2006, and appeared on dozens of otherrecordings from a vast universe of artists. Samples of his performances lived a secondary life on the masters of awho’s who of hip-hop and rap stars.
The guitarist is renowned for helping popularize the Gibson Les Paul Jr. model with P-90 pick-ups to create atone that is undisputedly his own. More recently, he enjoyed a long relationship with Dean Guitars, releasingseveral signature models.
Leslie West is survived by his wife Jenni, whom he married on stage after Mountain’s performance at theWoodstock 40th Anniversary concert in Bethel, NY on August 15, 2009. And, brother Larry and nephew Max.
From 1964 through today, few artists have left a more significant mark on music as we know it. Guitarists acrossthe globe together will unite in sadness as The World says goodbye to a true original.
