Los Angeles, CA — TOTO e The Players Club / Mascot Label Group hanno annunciato l’uscita globale di With A Little Help From My Friends il 25 giugno. La performance cattura una notte speciale il 21 novembre 2020 quando Steve Lukather, Joseph Williams e David Paich sono apparsi con la nuova formazione dei Toto per un evento globale che ha avuto origine a Los Angeles, CA. Ad unirsi a Lukather, Williams e Paich per questo prossimo capitolo della loro storia indelebile sono i nuovi membri della band, il bassista John Pierce (Huey Lewis and The News), il batterista Robert “Sput” Searight (Ghost-Note / Snarky Puppy), e il tastierista / background vocalist Steve Maggiora (Robert Jon & The Wreck). Il tastierista Dominique “Xavier” Taplin (Prince, Ghost-Note) e il polistrumentista / cantante Warren Ham (Ringo Starr) hanno continuato a far parte del gruppo. Steve Lukather a.k.a. Luke condivide: “Quando la musica è eseguita da grandi musicisti rende onore ai Toto. Il documentario contenuto nel DVD offre grandi intuizioni sui nostri pensieri per il futuro. David, che sta con noi, accanto a me e Joe, desidera mantenere viva questa musica. E Paich potrebbe fare un salto in qualsiasi momento per uno spettacolo come sorpresa speciale. Quando si è trattato di pianificare questa specifica scaletta, abbiamo scelto un gruppo eclettico di canzoni per questo spettacolo di una sola notte. In futuro, selezioneremo un mix più ampio dal catalogo dei Toto che include tagli profondi, successi e brani da Joe e dai miei album solisti pubblicati di recente. Entrambi non potremmo essere più entusiasti della risposta globale a questi dischi. Hanno raggiunto le classifiche di tutto il mondo, e l’integrazione di alcune di queste musiche nel nuovo set dei Toto porta un tocco di freschezza al Toto: The Dogz of Oz World Tour quando torneremo a mettere in scena gli spettacoli. Semplicemente, entrambi miriamo a portare i Toto del passato al presente e oltre, e questo primo sguardo alla nuova formazione pone le basi per un capitolo della nostra storia che non vediamo l’ora di scrivere”.
Joe Williams aggiunge: “È sempre una gioia completa eseguire uno spettacolo dei Toto, ma questo è stato speciale. Insieme a me, Luke e David lo scorso novembre c’erano tre nuovi musicisti virtuosi di alto livello, oltre ad alcuni geni di ritorno. Lo spettacolo in sé è nato dal bisogno di suonare dopo essere stato in isolamento da Covid, ma è servito anche come motivo per costruire questa nuova band. Sin dall’inizio questo gruppo si è unito e ha scavato a fondo nel materiale nuovo e vecchio dei Toto. Tra alcuni dei tagli più profondi c’è una delle mie canzoni preferite di sempre, “You Are The Flower” dell’originale Bobby Kimball. Essendo un grande fan (e un buon amico), dedico la performance a lui. Tornano anche alcune delle mie preferite, ‘Till The End’ e ‘Pamela’. Suonate alla perfezione dai nuovi gatti. Ho il miglior lavoro nella band perché quando non canto, posso guardare i musicisti più incredibili lavorare! Il modello Toto è forte e vero. Una band composta dai migliori musicisti e cantanti che scrivono ed eseguono ogni sorta di canzoni fantastiche. È così che è iniziato ed è così che continua”. Continua: “Questo documentario esplora questo concetto parlando con David, Luke, Warren, Dominic X, John Pierce, Robert ‘Sput’ Searight e Steve Maggiora delle loro esperienze come musicisti e anche dell’essere parte dell’eredità dei Toto. E, naturalmente, anche la discussione sullo spettacolo. Penso di esserci anch’io, dicendo quanto amo questi ragazzi! Presto torneremo da voi, sul palco, in carne ed ossa, espandendo il nostro set con

Luke e Joseph Williams sono amici di lunga data da quando erano bambini, e compagni di band che condividono una profonda storia colorata che ha prosperato professionalmente su base globale negli ultimi decenni. Di fronte alla messa in scena di questa unica apparizione notturna durante la pandemia globale, Luke ha offerto: “Non potremmo essere più in pace con questa mossa. C’è un entusiasmo rinfrescante e ottimista per entrare nel futuro. In questo momento, Joe ed io siamo gli unici membri di lunga data della band che vogliono essere sulla strada continuando a portare musica alla nostra base di fan multi-generazionale. Ho trascorso quasi quattro decenni e mezzo della mia vita come l’unico membro originale che non si è mai perso uno spettacolo o un album, alimentando questa eredità e permettendo alla musica di esistere continuamente nell’ambiente dei concerti dal vivo. Questo è qualcosa che non smetterò mai di fare, e quando inevitabilmente torniamo sulla strada, si presenta una rara opportunità di reimmaginare il nostro futuro personale, preservando allo stesso tempo la profonda connessione che esiste con il pubblico e producendo allo stesso tempo una continua scoperta”. Williams ha condiviso: “Luke e io ne abbiamo passate tante l’uno con l’altro. Lui è come un fratello per me. La nostra partnership creativa ha sempre arricchito le nostre vite. Mentre guardiamo a ciò che verrà all’unisono, non c’è altro che anticipazione per dare vita a tutto ciò che abbiamo in mente. Non riesco a pensare a nessun altro sulla Terra con cui preferirei lanciare il prossimo capitolo se non con questo amico e compagno di band di lunga data, leale e dotato. Siamo gli ultimi uomini rimasti… The Dogz of Oz!” Luke aggiunge: “Io e Joe siamo amici da quando io avevo 17 anni e Joe 14. Durante il corso di questa pandemia, abbiamo rivalutato la nostra carriera e come andare avanti. Le persone non sono più con noi o si sono ritirate. Ci sentiamo ancora come dei ragazzi che vogliono tornare sulla strada il più presto possibile. È dove viviamo. La crescita di Joe come produttore, compositore, ingegnere, cantante e performer è fonte di ispirazione. Il tempismo di questa mossa è perfetto perché Joe è al top del suo gioco, e mi stupisce ogni giorno. Ci stiamo godendo questa collaborazione e non potremmo essere più entusiasti del futuro”.

Negli ultimi anni, i TOTO hanno avuto una grande rinascita di popolarità come poche band a questo punto della loro carriera. Il loro 40° anniversario nel 2018 è stato segnato dalla pubblicazione di un nuovo album Greatest Hits (40 Trips Around The Sun) e dall’inizio del loro tour mondiale di maggior successo fino ad oggi. Pochi gruppi nella storia della musica registrata hanno avuto individualmente o collettivamente un’impronta più grande sulla cultura pop dei membri dei TOTO. Los Angeles, CA — TOTO and The Players Club / Mascot Label Group have announced the global release of With A Little Help From My Friends on June 25. The performance captures one special night on November 21, 2020 when Steve Lukather, Joseph Williams and David Paich appeared with the new line-up of Toto for a global event originating from Los Angeles, CA. Joining Lukather, Williams and Paich for this next chapter in their indelible history are new band members bassist John Pierce (Huey Lewis and The News), drummer Robert “Sput” Searight (Ghost-Note / Snarky Puppy), and keyboardist / background vocalist Steve Maggiora (Robert Jon & The Wreck). Keyboardist Dominique “Xavier” Taplin (Prince, Ghost-Note) and multi-instrumentalist / vocalist Warren Ham (Ringo Starr) segued over continuing their tenure in the ensemble. This marks the fifteenth incarnation of the Toto line-up in consideration of band members or sidemen who joined or exited. Steve Lukather a.k.a. Luke shares, “When the music is performed by great musicians it honors Toto. The documentary featured on the DVD offers great insights in to our thoughts looking forward. David, who stands with us, alongside Joe and myself, desire to keep this music alive. And Paich could pop in any time for a show as a special surprise. When it came to plan this specific set list, we picked an eclectic group of songs for this one night only show. Looking forward, we’ll be selecting a broader mix from the Toto catalog that includes deep cuts, the hits, and tunes from Joe and my recently released solo albums. Both of us could not be more thrilled with the global response to these records. They charted all over the world, and integrating some of the music in to the new Toto set brings a fresh spice to the Toto: The Dogz of Oz World Tour when we head back out to begin staging shows. Simply, both of us aim to bring the past Toto to the present and beyond, and this first look at the new line-up sets the stage for a chapter in our history we can’t wait to write.”
Joe Williams offers, “It’s always a complete joy to perform a Toto show, but this one was special. Joining me, Luke and David last November were three new top level, virtuoso musicians as well as a few returning geniuses. The show itself was born out of the need to play after being on Covid lockdown, but also served as the reason to build this new band. Right out of the gate this group gelled and dug deep into the new and old Toto material. Among some of the deeper cuts is one of my all-time favorite songs, ‘You Are The Flower’ by the original – Bobby Kimball. Being a massive fan (and a good friend), I dedicate the performance to him. Also back are a few of my favorite things, ‘Till The End’ and ‘Pamela.’ Played to perfection by the new cats. I have the best job in the band because when I’m not singing, I get to watch the most incredible players work! The Toto model holds strong and true. A band of the very best musicians and singers writing and performing all manner of cool songs. That’s how it began, and that’s how it continues.” He continues, “This documentary explores that concept by talking with David, Luke, Warren, Dominic X, John Pierce, Robert ‘Sput’ Searight, and Steve Maggiora about their experiences as players, and also about being a part of the Toto legacy. And, of course discussion about the show as well. I think I’m in there too, saying how much I love these guys! Soon we’ll to get back out to you, on stage, in the flesh expanding our set with some even deeper ‘legacy’ cuts as well as some new stuff from Luke’s and my new records. We can’t wait! Luke and Joseph Williams are life-long friends since they were kids, and bandmates sharing a deep colorful history that has thrived professionally on a global basis over the past decades. In front of staging this one night only appearance during the global pandemic, Luke offered, “We could not be more at peace with this move. There is a refreshing, optimistic enthusiasm to step in to the future. At this moment, Joe and I are the only long-tenured members of the band that want to be on the road continuing to bring music to our multi-generational fan base. I’ve spent almost four and a half decades of my life as the only original member who never missed a show or an album nurturing this legacy while enabling the music to continually exist in the live concert setting. That is something I’ll never stop doing, and when we inevitably return to the road it presents a rare opportunity to reimagine our personal futures while simultaneously preserving the deep connection that exists with the audience while likewise yielding continual discovery.” Williams shared, “Luke and I have been through a lot with one another. He’s like a brother to me. Our creative partnership has always enriched our lives. As we look towards what’s to come in unison, there is nothing but anticipation to bring everything in our minds to life. I can’t think of anyone else on Earth I’d rather launch the next chapter with than with this lifelong, loyal and gifted friend and band mate. We’re the last men standing…The Dogz of Oz!” Luke adds, “Joe and I have been friends since I was 17, and Joe was 14. During the course of this pandemic, we’ve been reevaluating our career and how to move forward. People are either not with us anymore or have retired. We still feel like kids who want to be back on the road as soon as possible. It’s where we live. Joe’s growth as a producer, songwriter, engineer, singer and performer is inspiring. The timing of this move is perfect as Joe is at the top of his game, and he amazes me every day. We are enjoying this collaboration, and could not be more enthusiastic about the future.”
With A Little Help From My Friends was Produced by Joseph Williams, who also edited the accompanying long-form video. The band’s long-time front of house engineer Ken Freeman mixed and captured the sound that evening.
On February 26th, Luke and Joe presented solo albums via The Players Club / Mascot Label Group which charted in multiple territories across the globe. Both artists made significant contributions to the other’s recordings. Additionally, David Paich performed on select tracks on Luke’s I Found The Sun Again and Williams’ Denizen Tenant. The titles were released on LP, CD and a limited-edition deluxe edition is available with the two titles bundled together.
